Landscape and Garden Design
My initial consultation and advice is free, and I discuss with you your requirements after which a written quotation is sent to you outlining the scope of works, my fees and conditions of appointment. Once agreed and I have established with you how you wish to proceed, I will revisit to take a detailed brief and measure up the garden, taking a thorough survey and analysis of the site to include aspect and the garden's setting.
On smaller gardens I can take measurements and levels to draw up a plan. On larger complex gardens a professional Surveyor may be required dependent upon the complexity of the site.
I then summarise your brief in writing, and when this is approved by you I then draw up outline proposals using hand drawn sketches and, or 3D computer modelling to help you visualise and understand the proposal where enclosed spaces or changes of level are involved.
I also welcome larger commissioned landscape projects and provide production material from sketched drawings and a master plan through to the production of initial concept designs and master plans, to landscape hard-works and planting details with accompanying plant schedules and specifications, the discharge of planning conditions relating to landscape, administration of tender procedure, inspection of works on site to completion, the preparation of landscape management strategies and maintenance schedules, of which will be presented to Contractors in A1 size plan specification to scale. Detailed perspective visual drawings will be presented to the client to discuss the project design brief in detail.
Planting softens hard landscape surfaces and structures such as walls, raised planters, terracing, paving, wooden structures and water features bringing cohesion between the built and natural elements so that it becomes aesthetically pleasing.
As it is entirely up to you how you wish to choose your own planting, you may also decide not to have planting also. Whether you are an avid keen Gardener and enjoy maintaining and pruning your plants, or prefer a maintenance free garden, I can advice you on planting to provide you with an enclosure, form a shelter, frame a view or create a focal point with colour, accent, form, texture, time of flowering and seasonal interest that will bring endless pleasure right the way through the year that matches your personality, a cost affective planting scheme that will reduce major expense and last considerable time if chosen wisely, that complements the hard materials and suits your budget.
I provide the planting service myself, and lay out and plant the plants according to their planting centres and specification. Plants will be sourced from reputable wholesale stockists than retailed nurseries to reduce cost, and are of excellent quality for longevity and sustainability, trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, wildflowers, seedlings, bulbs, alpines, ornamental grasses, herbs, ferns, hedging and aquatics. Prior to planting, good quality top soil is used to guarantee correct establishment of growth.
My fees for initial consultation are free with residential private customers and my aim is to open about costs when I prepare cost estimates, although inevitably for the most complex, bespoke gardens this will be a 'ball park' figure until it has been priced by contractors. Design and outline plans are subject to scale and complexity. Where you have a limited budget, I can take this into consideration and respect this.
